Celebrating World Environment Day

World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.
The World Environment Day slogan for 2008 is Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy
World Environment Day can be celebrated in many ways, including street rallies, bicycles parades, green concerts, essay and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean-up campaigns and much more. In many countries, this annual event is used to enhance political attention and action.
To mark this day, Rotaract Club of Tripureshwor decided to do two effective activities-first, to broadcast a social message from one of the leading FM station and secondly donate plants to OCRC orphanage. (MORE.......)

“DRR Visit”

Since a Rotaract culture has been made to make a DRR (District Rotaract Representative) visit in every Rotaract club, this year Rotaract Club of Tripureswor organized a program “DRR Visit” on 31st May 2008 to invite the current DRR Rtr.Anil Shrestha, DS (District Secretary) Rtr.Girish Bilas Joshi and DT (District Treasurer) Rtr.Yugal Bajracharya. The DRR gave a starting speech to motivate and encourage the fellow Rotaractors to improve their performance and their projects more broadly. The words of inspiration of the DRR were really appreciated by all the club members and the visitors as well.
The avenue directors presented the status of their respective avenues for Rota year 2007/2008, and then DRR and DS provided lots of information regarding club establishment, its persistence, club development, their functions and the ways for improvement, and also pointed out the mistakes and weakness of each avenue, with its correction as well. The presenting directors were Rtr.Sudarshan Pokharel for Club Service, Rtr.Robin Marahatta for Community Service in absence of Rtr.Sunita Giri, Rtr.Tara Bhandari for Professional Development, and Rtr.Rupak Pradhan for International Service, and also Treasurer Rtr.Suravi Gurung.
Also since 31st May is World No-Smoking Day, a short program was performed on anti-smoking with a sppech from IPB Rtr.Purnima Joshi and from the DRR as well.
And lastly, a birthday wishes were shared from all the members and the visitors to President Rtr.Anil K. Mahaseth and Rtr.Promi Shrestha, singing a birthday jingle.
This program was co-ordinated by Rtr.Niroj Raya, Rtr.Bipin Gyawali and Rtr.Lakpa Nuri Sherpa.

OCRC Visit

To mark the Rotaract week 2008, Rotaract Club of Tripureswor conducted the several
programs under its each avenues i.e. on the Club Service ,Professional Development, International Club Service and Community Services Avenues. Also the program was conducted in the Special Area Project.

On 22nd March 2008 (Saturday), 27 Rotaractors of RC Tripureswor accomplished one more program under Community Service Avenue. The program was coordinated by Rtr. Ms. Romi Shrestha, Rtr. Ms. Sachita Shrestha, Rtr. Ms. Karuna Ranjit and Rtr. Ms. Sunita Giri. This program basically was designed to distribute the stationeries to the children of Orphan Children Rehabilitation Center (OCRC) at Duwakot, Bhaktapur and also to get socialize with the children.

At round 9A.M all Rotractors fellows of RC Tripureswor gathered at BICC and departed for the OCRC. The program was started with the introduction of OCRC children. All the children were given the toffee after they finish their introduction. Along with the introduction the kids were asked to share jokes, stories and sing a song of their choice. To motivate the children to come up and speak in front of the mass each children were given additional toffee.

After the introduction and the some entertainment programs i.e. socialization program there was the game for and with the kids. The game was "Musical Man". Since we lacked the chairs over there and some of the kids were also very small we came of with an idea of Musical Man where the chairs of popular game "musical chair" was replaced with the fellow Rotractors. Through this idea we avoided the risk of kids being injured and also at the same time we got an opportunity to play game with the kids. The winner of the Musical Man Mr. Sandeep and the runner up Mr. Manish was awarded the prize from RC Tripureswor.

After the game was over all the kids were taken to wash up their hands, feets and face and were be sited for their lunch. Fellow Rotaractors distrubted cookies and tea to all kids. After the lunch program was over the coordinators of the program there was the program of material handover where the coordinators of program handed the stationeries to the care giver of the OCRC. The stationeries consist of copies, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, name sticker, color pens, and the charts.
Moreover fellow Rotractors played antakchadi with the kids of OCRC which was the very exciting and entertainingsocialize with the children.

Participation in “3rd Inter Rotaract Dance Competition 2008”


On 22nd March 2008, Saturday “THIRD INTER ROTARACT DANCE COMPETITION” was jointly organized by Rotaract & Rotary Club of Patan Durbar Square at Ashok Party Palace, Balifal, Lalitpur.

In the competition, there were Eight Club Participants, namely; RC Dillibazar, RC Pashupati, RC Lalitpur, RC Mahabouddha, RC Kastamandap, RC Kathmandu Mid-Town, RC Patan Durbar Square and finally we RC Tripureswor.

The program was followed by many Group & Single cultural, modern, traditional & Break dance items with Rocking Concerts. After the free dance competition, top 6 were selected for the final round, in which RC Tripureswor, RC Kathmandu Mid-Town, RC Mahabouddha, RC Patan Durbar Square, RC Kastamandap and RC Lalitpur were qualified.

All the finalists bombarded their performance exclusively great, with loud claps and encouraging shouts of public. After the final performances voting right were used for their favorite club by the audience, as the final decision were 60% by Judges and 40% by the viewers.

Finally the result was out as;

Winner: RC Patan Durbar Square -Group Dance

Second: RC Kastamandap -Single Performance - Ms. Elina

Third : RC Tripureswor - Single Performance - Mr. Rupak Pradhan

As usual, this time also RC Tripureswor grabbed the award. We congratulate Rtr. Rupak Pradhan of our Club for his rocking performance in the song “ Mein hoon DON” & his great expression in the song “Jab se tere naina”.

The World Environment Day slogan for 2008 is Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy. Recognising that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era, UNEP is asking countries, companies and communities to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and how to reduce them. The World Environment Day will highlight resources and initiatives that promote low carbon economies and life-styles, such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption.
